ARMCO® Pure Iron

ARMCO® pure iron holds an important position in industrial and scientific fields; it is not only a key basic material in industrial production but also promotes the advancement of materials science.

Definition of ARMCO® Pure Iron

In 1910, the American Armco Steel Corporation smelted pure iron with a purity of 99.75% (referred to as ARMCO iron), becoming synonymous with industrial pure iron.

Definition of ARMCO® Pure Iron

Since the birth of ARMCO® pure iron, advancements in metallurgy and smelting equipment have led countries such as the United States, Japan, Germany, Sweden, and France to place increasing importance on the research and development of high-purity and ultra-purity iron. For example, Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. in Japan successfully developed high-purity iron and ultra-purity iron with purities of 3N5-5N using an electrolytic method, resulting in excellent corrosion resistance, magnetic properties, and mechanical performance.

Characteristics of ARMCO® Pure Iron

| High Purity: The purity of conventional industrial pure iron generally ranges from 99.6% to 99.8%. The purity of high-purity ARMCO® pure iron can be enhanced to 99.8% to 99.9%. This type of iron exhibits superior performance in terms of magnetism and corrosion resistance, often utilized in electromagnetic, precision instruments, and other fields requiring high material performance. The purity of ARMCO pure iron is not a fixed value and may fluctuate due to production processes and raw material quality.

| Magnetic Properties: ARMCO® pure iron has excellent soft magnetic properties, with a high saturation magnetic induction intensity. Its coercive force typically ranges from 40 to 72 A/m, indicating that its magnetization direction is easily changeable, classifying it as a soft magnetic material. ARMCO® pure iron has high initial and maximum magnetic permeability, effectively conducting magnetic fields.

| Ease of Machining: As the purity of ARMCO® pure iron increases, its yield strength and ductility also improve. It can be processed into sheets or profiles of varying thickness through hot rolling, cold rolling, and other techniques.
