The MagLev air compressor is a cooling device that uses magnetic levitation technology to balance and support the rotor’s operation. It also reduces friction and wear on the compressor, improving efficiency, reducing noise, and lowering maintenance costs.
Principle of MagLev Air Compressor
Maglev relies on the principle that similar magnetic poles repel and opposite ones attract. An appropriate electromagnetic field is applied between the rotor and stator in the bearing. The rotor can be kept relatively “suspended” by controlling this electromagnetic field.

The maglev system consists of four parts: the rotor, sensors, controllers, and actuators. The actuators include electromagnets and power amplifiers. The magnetic levitation bearing uses a magnetic field to suspend the rotor, preventing mechanical contact during rotation, eliminating mechanical friction, and removing the need for mechanical bearings and the lubrication systems required for them. The MagLev air compressor applies maglev bearing technology.
Main Components of the MagLev Air Compressor
| Shell: Serves as the external protective structure for the compressor, encapsulating all internal components.
| Rotor: Made from a permanent magnet, it is one of the moving parts of the compressor.
| Stator: This is located outside the rotor, with a gap between them to generate the magnetic field.
| Magnetic Bearings: Placed at both ends of the rotor to suspend it and reduce friction.
| Cushion Protector: It is fitted on the surface of the rotor to protect it from direct contact with the stator during power outages, preventing damage.

The MagLev centrifugal compressor discharges high-temperature, high-pressure refrigerant from the air conditioning compressor into the condenser, where it releases heat to the copper tubes, cooling water. After condensation, it turns into medium-temperature, high-pressure refrigerant liquid, which then passes through a throttling valve to reduce pressure to low-temperature, low-pressure liquid entering the evaporator.
In the evaporator shell, it absorbs heat from the cold water flowing through the copper pipes, vaporizing into low-temperature, low-pressure gas which is then drawn into the compressor. Inside the compressor, it undergoes secondary compression into high-temperature, high-pressure gas, completing the cycle and ultimately achieving cooling.
Advantages of the MagLev Air Compressor
| High Operating Efficiency: The MagLev air compressor requires only 2 amperes of starting current, while traditional compressors need at least 500-600 amperes. The MagLev compressor operates with 30% higher efficiency than traditional compressors. The adaptive control logic in the self-control system allows a 450-ton chiller to provide cooling with a minimum of 0.33 kW/ton, with cooling times of up to 40-50 hours. This powerful adaptive control can meet all-day cooling needs.

| High Reliability: The MagLev bearings enable 100% oil-free operation, with only one main moving part. This eliminates the oil path and oil cooling system, and oil control system, simplifying the entire system. It reduces the complexity of the mechanical structure, cutting maintenance costs by 50% compared to oil-lubricated compressors. The absence of oil gives the MagLev compressor unmatched reliability.
| Low Noise and Low Vibration: The magnetic levitation bearings eliminate mechanical friction between the rotor and bearings, resulting in lower operational noise and vibrations. The noise level during operation is less than 70 decibels. Additionally, the MagLev centrifugal compressors are smaller, more compact, and lighter, with a weight as low as 295 pounds, making transportation and installation more convenient.

| Redundant Cooling System Functionality: Redundancy in the cooling system is crucial. However, due to space and cost limitations, traditional compressors often cannot support multiple units within one machine to achieve redundancy. The MagLev air compressor allows multiple MagLev compressors to be installed within a single unit, ensuring redundant functionality. If one compressor fails, others can continue to operate normally, maintaining cooling.
