Magnet selection is a crucial part of product design and development, requiring a comprehensive consideration of factors such as performance and cost to ensure that the magnet products meet the usage requirements.
Clarifying Magnet Usage Requirements
| Function of the Magnet: Is it for strong fixation? Motion drive? Or other innovative applications?

| Usage Environment: Will it be used indoors or outdoors? It is also important to know the temperature, humidity, and whether corrosive substances are present in the usage scenario.
| Space Constraints: Identify the installation dimensions, shapes, and assembly methods (press-fit/bonding/coating). Ensure there are sufficient controls for magnet installation to adapt it to the product structure.
| Performance Requirements: Based on actual needs, understand the required adhesion force to select the appropriate specifications of the magnet.
| Cost and Certification: Evaluate your budget target cost and identify which industry certifications the purchased magnets need to meet (such as RoHS, REACH, FDA, etc.).
Choosing the Right Type of Magnet
| Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB): Strongest magnetic performance, with a maximum magnetic energy product exceeding 50MGOe, suitable for miniaturized designs; requires surface protection against rust; working temperatures range from 80℃ to 220℃ depending on the grade.

| Samarium Cobalt (SmCo): Excellent temperature stability (-273℃ to 350℃), outstanding corrosion resistance without the need for surface treatment, stable magnetic performance, but at a higher cost.
| Alnico: Lowest temperature coefficient, with magnetic field almost unaffected by temperature change; can be processed into complex shapes; low coercivity requires closure of the magnetic circuit.
| Ferrite: Low cost and abundant resources; good corrosion resistance; weaker magnetic performance and larger size.
Determining Shape and Size
Select the appropriate shape and size of the magnet based on product structure and magnetic field distribution needs, such as tile-shaped magnets designed specifically for motors. Common shapes include discs, rings, blocks, and tile shapes. To ensure smooth assembly of the magnets, pay attention to the magnets’ tolerances—not just whether a single magnet meets the requirement, but also the cumulative error across multiple magnets.

Coating Treatment
When evaluating the usage requirements of the magnets, choose the surface treatment method based on the usage environment, such as zinc plating, nickel plating, or epoxy coating, to enhance corrosion resistance and durability. If used indoors, nickel plating is currently a mainstream coating method.

Testing For Magnet Selection
After selection, conduct sample testing to verify that the adhesion force, temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and other performance characteristics meet the requirements, ensuring stable performance during mass production.
