Magnetic Assemblies

Magnetic assemblies are widely used in daily life, and engineers often design and utilize different magnet assemblies tailored to specific applications.

Definition of Magnetic Assemblies

Magnetic assemblies refer to the magnetic functional unit composed of one or more magnetic elements combined with other non-magnetic parts (such as a casing). It is not merely a simple combination of magnets but rather a highly integrated component containing magnets and non-magnetic materials with specific magnetic patterns, shapes, and magnetic field strengths. The primary goal is to optimize the magnetic circuit to achieve maximum magnetic performance.

Definition of Magnetic Assemblies

Common Types of Magnetic Assemblies

There are many types of magnet assemblies. Common types include the following:

| Pot Magnets: Comprised of permanent magnets, steel housings, and gaskets, the steel casing guides magnetic lines of force, enhancing magnetic power. They are commonly used for holding objects, pulling lights, and magnetic fixtures. Various types include countersunk pot magnets, through-hole pot magnets, and internally threaded pot magnets.

| Injection Molded Magnetic Assemblies: These combine magnetic materials with plastics or other materials through injection molding to form intricately shaped magnetic parts, characterized by high dimensional accuracy and strong corrosion resistance. They are commonly used in automotive components and other applications.

Design of Magnetic Circuits in Magnetic Assemblies

The design of magnetic circuits in magnet assemblies must choose appropriate design types based on specific application scenarios and requirements.

| Basic Constructed Magnetic Circuit: The core guides the magnetic flux generated by permanent magnets (such as neodymium or samarium-cobalt) through magnetic materials (like iron and steel), efficiently transmitting it to the working area to form a relatively controllable magnetic field in terms of direction and strength. This is commonly used in scenarios requiring stable magnetic field environments.

| Magnetic Flux Enhancement Circuit: This uses special structures (such as pot-type magnetic circuits or iron plate-clamped magnetic steel) to concentrate magnetic flux on specific working surfaces, increasing magnetic field strength to achieve strong attraction or repulsion. For instance, magnetic separation and iron removal equipment, along with permanent magnetic chucks, utilize the high magnetic permeability of guiding materials to concentrate magnetic lines.

| Array Combined Magnetic Circuit: This arranges multiple permanent magnet units in specific spatial positions and magnetization directions, using the principle of magnetic field vector superposition to create a unique magnetic field distribution. A typical example is the Halbach array, which periodically rotates the magnetization direction to achieve a “unilateral magnetic field effect,” where the magnetic field on one side is enhanced while that on the opposite side is weakened. This is commonly used in linear motors and magnetic levitation bearings.

| Controllable Adjustable Magnetic Circuit: This involves dynamically reconstructing the magnetic flux path through mechanical structures or electronic control, allowing for flexible switching or adjustment of the magnetic field. For example, switchable permanent magnetic chucks can change air gaps by rotating magnets, enabling rapid switching between attraction and release.

Factors Affecting the Price of Magnetic Assemblies

| Material Costs: Fluctuations in the prices of rare-earth permanent magnetic materials (such as neodymium magnets) directly impact the costs of magnetic assemblies. Variations in rare earth concentrate prices can lead to fluctuations in the raw material costs for magnetic assemblies.

| Assembly Processes: The prices of magnet assemblies that require precise assembly and complex installation processes tend to be higher. For example, high-performance neodymium magnet assemblies produced using grain boundary penetration technology tend to be more expensive due to technical barriers associated with the assembly process.

| Application: Magnet assemblies used in high-end application fields generally have high performance and reliability requirements, leading to higher prices; conversely, magnet assemblies used in ordinary fields tend to be lower in price.
