Get Custom Neodymium Magnets for Your Unique Applications with N42 Magnets - Powerful and Versatile Magnetic Solutions
N42 neodymium magnet used to be the strongest N grade neodymium magnets. It’s still nowadays one of the commonest neodymium magnet grades. N means Neodymium and 42 means the maximum energy is 42 MGOe. N42 magnet has a residual magnetic flux (Br) of 12.8-13.2 kGs.
Neodymium magnets are the strongest permanent magnet type commercially available. They are made of iron, boron, and rare earth alloys such as praseodymium-neodymium (PrNd). N42 magnet is widely used in holding applications. More than ten years ago, before the development of higher grades all the way to N55 magnet, N42 is considered the most powerful neodymium magnet grade of the day. For this reason, many applications still use N42 magnet as the component.
The theoretical maximum working temperature of N42 neodymium magnets is 80 degrees. It also depends on L/D ratio of the magnet. If your application is at room temperature, N42 magnet may be a sufficient option. For holding applications, N42 magnet is different from N35 neodymium magnets and N52 magnets in terms of magnetic flux density or holding force. Magnet grade N42 is something in between.
N42 neodymium magnet comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. A lot of rectangular neodymium magnets, neodymium disc magnets and countersink neodymium magnets are N42 grade. They are found in both industrial and consumer goods. Examples are neodymium pot magnets and rubber coated magnets, where N42 neodymium magnets are place within or upon a steel housing/plate.
For application engineers, magnetic flux density can be a requirement when they choose a magnet grade. In layman terms, magnetic flux density is also known as magnetic field strength or surface gauss. You can refer to magnetic field calculator of kjmagnetics. This calculator provides users a reference based on an uncoated and unchamfered magnet. The real value is normally around 10% lower than theoretical one.
