Meaning of the N56 Neodymium Magnet Grade

Taking the N56H grade as an example:

The letter N stands for neodymium (Nd) in English.
The number 56 indicates the maximum magnetic energy product of this grade of magnet.
The letter H indicates that the operating temperature is 120 degrees Celsius.

Meaning of the N56 Neodymium Magnet Grade

If there is no letter after the number, it indicates a maximum operating temperature of 80 degrees Celsius. The grades with letters indicate the following maximum operating temperatures:
M grade: 100 degrees Celsius
H grade: 120 degrees Celsius
SH grade: 150 degrees Celsius
UH grade: 180 degrees Celsius

Basic Characteristics of N56 Neodymium Magnets

Similar to other grades of neodymium magnets, N56 neodymium magnets are made from three elements: neodymium (Nd), iron (Fe), and boron (B) through a special alloying process. Their powerful magnetic performance primarily comes from the strong magnetic properties of neodymium and the alloying effects of iron and boron.

permanentmagnet shape

Due to the powder metallurgy process used in neodymium-iron-boron magnets, they are very machinable. Various shapes of neodymium-iron-boron magnets can be manufactured based on customer requirements, such as circular, square, ring, and tile-shaped. Dimensional tolerances can be achieved to within 0.05mm.

Neodymium-iron-boron materials contain a substantial amount of neodymium and iron, which makes them prone to rust. Therefore, N56 neodymium magnets require surface coating treatment, which can generally include zinc, nickel, or nickel-copper-nickel coatings.

Advantages of N56 Neodymium Magnets

| High Magnetic Field Strength: N56 neodymium magnets have greater magnetic field strength than other grades of permanent magnets. They are used in applications that require strong magnetic field strength. From a data perspective, the magnetic strength of N56 neodymium magnets is over 20% higher than that of N42 neodymium magnets and over 50% higher than that of N35 neodymium magnets.

Meaning of the N56 Neodymium Magnet Grade

| Versatility: Because N56 neodymium magnets have higher magnetic strength than other grades of permanent magnets, a small-sized magnet can provide a strong magnetic force in compact spaces. This makes their applications broader and their functionality more diverse. N56 permanent magnets are well-suited for various challenging tasks that other grades of permanent magnets may be unable to handle.

| Automotive Industry: Due to their high energy density, N56 neodymium magnets can be used in automotive micro motors, significantly improving the efficiency and output power of these motors used for seat adjustment, sunroof control, and other functions.

| Industrial Manufacturing: In the industrial manufacturing field, N56 neodymium magnets can be used in motors for CNC machines and in grab-and-move devices in automated production lines.

Common Misconceptions When Choosing N56 Neodymium Magnets

Many customers believe that a higher magnet grade is always better. However, when selecting the required neodymium-iron-boron magnet, magnetic performance is not the only factor to consider; other factors such as environmental conditions, temperature, and cost should also be taken into account. This approach helps in selecting a cost-effective magnet that meets the specified requirements.
