Oversized Neodymium Magnets

Oversized neodymium magnets, also known as large neodymium magnets or big neodymium magnets, are not the average refrigerator magnets; they are industrial-strength powerhouses capable of lifting thousands of times their weight.

What is a Neodymium (NdFeB) Magnet?

A neodymium magnet is a type of rare-earth permanent magnetic material composed of elements such as neodymium, iron, and boron. Due to its high magnetic energy product, high coercivity, high permeability, and high stability, the NdFeB magnet is often referred to as the “King of Magnets.” It is also one of the most widely used permanent magnetic materials today.

As a type of rare-earth permanent magnet, the neodymium content typically ranges from 29% to 32.5%, iron from 63.9% to 68.7%, and the boron content is relatively low, usually around 1.1% to 1.2%. To achieve different performance characteristics, part of the neodymium can be replaced by other rare-earth metals like dysprosium and praseodymium.

Applications of Neodymium Magnets

| Mechanical equipment: Magnetic separation rods, magnetic separation machinery, magnetic lifters, etc.

| Other industries: Magnetic door locks, bag magnets, toy magnets, packaging magnets, etc.

Oversized Neodymium Magnets Available from Tengye

Tengye can provide large neodymium magnets in various shapes and sizes and customize production to meet customer requirements.

| Large neodymium cylinder magnets: Customizable, for example, D100xH100 (axially magnetized)

| Large neodymium block magnets: Customizable, for instance, L150xW100xH50

| Large neodymium ring magnets: Customizable, for instance, OD300xID250xH18

Considerations for Customizing Oversized Neodymium Magnets

Since oversized magnets are typically custom-made and can be expensive due to their large size, customers should confirm key details before purchasing.

| Operating Temperature: NdFeB magnets are sensitive to temperature. For example, the maximum operating temperature for N-series NdFeB magnets is 80°C. Exceeding this temperature can cause demagnetization. Customers need to consider the operating temperature in their application and select the appropriate magnet grade to meet the temperature requirements.

| Magnetization Direction: The magnetization direction affects the magnetic properties of the magnet. Therefore, the NdFeB magnet should be magnetized according to the application needs, such as axial or radial magnetization.

| Tolerance: When customizing magnets, size tolerances must be considered, which typically depend on the size and precision requirements of the magnet. Higher precision tolerance requirements may lead to higher machining costs.

Safe Usage of Oversized Neodymium Magnets

| Strong Magnetic Force: Oversized NdFeB magnets have strong magnetic forces. Care must be taken during installation and use to avoid injury.

| Fragility: Although NdFeB magnets are made of hard and brittle materials, they can easily break when subjected to external force. If two large magnets collide, the NdFeB magnet may shatter.

| Strong Magnetic Field: The strong magnetic field of oversized magnets can affect navigation systems used in air transport. Therefore, before shipping large magnets, magnetic shielding and testing should be performed to ensure air transport safety.
