Rectangular neodymium magnets are one of the commonest types of sintered NdFeB magnets. They are sometimes called “neodymium bar magnets” when the length is relatively big. Neodymium magnets are mainly made of iron, boron, and rare earth alloy such as praseodymium-neodymium. As a rare earth magnet, rectangular neodymium magnets are widely used in holding application.
The dimension of a rectangular neodymium magnet is expressed in length (L), width(W), and thickness(T). The typical magnetization direction is through thickness because this allows the largest magnet surface to be the pole face and achieve the highest pull force possible.
Rectangular neodymium magnets are either coated with nickel, zinc, or epoxy. Stand-alone rectangular neodymium magnets are very commonly used. However, they are sometimes used with a rectangular pot steel to form a rectangular pot magnet. They can also be arranged in a halbach array to achieve a particularly strong magnetic flux density on the one side. Rectangular neodymium magnets are also used in some versions of magnetic gun mount.
