Spherical Magnets

Spherical magnets, with their unique shape and magnetic properties, demonstrate distinctive applications in various fields, which is the focus of this article.

Definition of Spherical Magnets

Spherical magnets are magnets shaped like spheres. They possess magnetic properties, capable of generating a magnetic field that attracts materials such as iron, cobalt, and nickel. They have two magnetic poles, namely the north pole (N pole) and the south pole (S pole). The magnetic poles of spherical magnets are typically distributed at two symmetrical points, although there are special cases, such as multipole magnetized spherical magnets, where the distribution of magnetic poles can be more complex.

Types of Spherical Magnets

| Neodymium Spherical Magnets: Made from neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) material, they have extremely high magnetic performance and are among the strongest permanent magnetic materials available. They provide powerful magnetism despite their small size and can generate a strong magnetic field, often used in precision instruments with high magnetic requirements.

| Ferrite Spherical Magnets: Made from ferrite materials, these have a lower cost and relatively weaker magnetism but exhibit good corrosion resistance and stability. They are commonly used in everyday products where high magnetic specifications are not essential.

Characteristics of Spherical Magnets

| Magnetic Field Distribution: The direction of the magnetic field at the poles is perpendicular to the surface of the sphere, and the field is strongest at these poles. The magnetic field in the middle part of the sphere is relatively weaker, and its direction is complex. The spherical design gives the magnetic field distribution a unique symmetry.

| Magnetic Pole Distribution: The magnetic poles of spherical magnets are usually located at two symmetrical points on the surface of the sphere. The position of these poles is determined by the magnetization process and remains fixed under standard conditions.

| Magnetic Field Closure: Magnetic field lines emanate from the north pole, traverse the external space to enter the south pole, and then return through the interior of the sphere to the north pole, forming a closed loop that conforms to the basic properties of the magnetic field.

Size of Spherical Magnets

The size of the magnets is usually indicated by their diameter, which typically ranges from several millimeters to several tens of millimeters, such as diameters of 3mm, 5mm, 8mm, and 10mm. In some specialized applications, larger or smaller spherical magnets may exist, though they are relatively rare. Tengye is a manufacturer of various kinds of magnets. The diameter of certain spherical magnets can be manufactured to range from 0.5mm to 130mm.
